Always, Sometimes, Never…

I Always….

    • love the smell of Preston’s morning breath
    • call my mom atleast once a day
    • am hot!
    • wear flip flops in the summer!
    • Miss Lydia!

I sometimes….

    • cry for no reason
    • sing REALLY LOUD in my car
    • talk too much
    • wish I could go back to school
    • have dreams where Lydia visits me

I Never….

    • forget my siblings birthdays
    • show up to work late! (True story!)
    • Eat broccoli..Yuck!
    • get tired of hearing “I love you!”
    • have forgotten the sound of Lydia’s voice!

What ABOUT You???

Just a few things....

Preston has officially started saying "momma!" It's about time!!! And I LOVE it, atleast for now anyways...i'm sure after awhile, I will want to change my name! :) He also had his well checkup on friday the 24th. His stats are as follows:
Weight: 22 lbs 4 oz---75 percentile
Height: 29 inches---75 percentile
Head: 17 3/4---50 percentile
Today he walked about 6 steps when no one was looking to go get a toy he had his eye one. Timmy has caught him doing this a couple of times so I am pretty confident that he will be walking by 10 months! If not, I will be surprised!

Happy Birthday Timmy!

Today is Timmy’s Birthday and he’s turning the big 39!  One more year from 40!!!  I’m already getting ideas in my head for his “Over the hill” party! To say that I love this man is an understatement!  He is everything to me! Just last year, a week before his birthday he was in a really bad accident where he was electrocuted, fell off a ladder, falling 15 ft and hit his head on the bed of a truck! He could have been paralyzed, broke his neck or even worse dead! I was 6 months pregnant and a nervous wreck! He was so lucky b/c all that happened to him was cracking his 3 lower vertebrae! Obviously he needed help for awhile but I was happy to oblige b/c the thought of my life without him made me so sick to my stomach that to this day it makes me cry!  Just shows that you need to cherish the ones you love b/c you never know when that person might be gone! Heavenly Father obviously had a different plan for him and for that I am eternally greatful! I am so happy to have another year to celebrate his birthday with this wonderful man! Timmy, I love you so much!!!  More than you know!!!!

Blog hop-Favorite Kid picture

So when I read this weeks blog hop, I honestly thought that there are soooo many pictures of my kids that I could share but I have narrowed them down to a few. The 1st one is a picture of Ariel that was taken at Disney World when she was 5. I swear this should be a billboard for Disney! I’m not sure who took this picture of her but everything about is PERFECT! I just Love this! Scan

My next one is of Nicholas that was taken in Colorado when Timmy and the kids were visiting his sister Lan and Uncle Dan. What an action shot! Lan really captured Nicholas’ personality…it shows how full of life he is and how fun he is to be around!

Scan1

My last one is of Preston’s hospital picture. He is 9 months already and has grown so fast that sometimes I wish I could go back to that 1st day and just hold him alittle bit longer. I love holding him now but he’s at that age where he wants to be put down so that he can explore. Slow down please!

Dinner with the Doan’s

Last Tuesday, we were invited to go eat my favorite food, Pho at my friend Lysa’s house. They are Vietnamese as well and her mom makes the BEST Pho!  No lie! I had no idea though until that night. I have been craving hers ever since. Forget eating at that Restaurant that we normally go to…we’ll just start heading on over to Mama Doan’s Kitchen! Not even playin! Asian people can get rowdy at times…especially their family and Preston isn’t quite used to all that noise so he of course was fussy most of the time we were there. Looks like we’ll just have to visit more often. Here are a few pics that I was able to take without him crying.

Picture 161 Picture 168 Picture 165

Oh wait…seems he was crying in these 1st two. The last one, Lysa had concluded that as long as she didn’t make “eye contact,” then he was fine.

Picture 164Picture 167

Learning to play with others!!! I think he had a crush on little miss Victoria!

Picture 162 Picture 163 Picture 169

Apparently he thought he was cool on this bike. He must not know he’s a baby!  Little man fit right in with all the other kids. He saw Lysa’s little boy Codie hop on this thing and so he thought he would give it a try!

Thanks again Lysa (and her momma!) Dinner was wonderful!!!!  What time should be be there tomorrow???  :)

Whatever happened to focusing on the positive???

As I was driving home today, I started thinking about my life and things that have happened over the past few months. So often in this terrible economy, we find ourselves focusing on the negatives...the things we don't have when we should be focusing on the positives! I'm sure people know that Timmy was laid off from his job back in September and unfortunately hasn't had any luck finding another job. He worked at Southland Log homes for 15 years!!! And they got rid of him without even the slightest blink! So we decided that he would stay home b/c it would save us money in daycare and I would go back to work. Yeah we struggle, yeah it's hard with 3 kids, and yeah I stress out and worry, heck we both do! I have a bad habit of watching HGTV and getting all depressed of my "wishes and wants!" But I realized today that they aren't "NEEDS!" I am now focusing on the positives...what I do have! I am thankful that right now, I still have a house to live in, a car to drive and a JOB! I am thankful for my children and for Timmy! I am thankful to atleast have a family to go through this hard time with! We lean on each other for support and I couldn't ask for anything more! I know that things will get better and that this is all temporary. Until then I will just keep praying to my Heavenly Father to take care of us and continue to be greatful for all the blessings that have been given to me so far!!!

Favorite Recipe or Dish

vietnamese-pho-beef-noodle-soup-recipe

I’m blog hopping again with McKlinky and this tuesdays’s theme is Favorite Recipe or Dish. Well, I don’t cook! There I said it! But trust me when I say, you would NOT want me to! Timmy does all the cooking and he’s quite amazing at it! Therefore, I am posting my favorite dish that he makes. Timmy is from Vietnam and one of their most famous meals is Pho (Vietnamese Beef & Rice-Noodle Soup.) We eat it at this one restaurant in town once a week but Timmy makes it alot at home as well! I actually like his a little bit better b/c he doesn’t cook it with alot of MSG or fat! Unfortunately, Timmy can’t tell me how he makes it so I am attaching a recipe from food network that will suffice and give you the same results. Trust me when I say it is amazing!!!

Vietnamese Pho: Beef Noodle Soup Recipe

Adapted from my favorite Vietnamese cookbook: Into the Vietnamese Kitchen serves 8

Sometimes, I omit the 1lb of beef meat in the broth (you’ll see I’ve made it optional) - as I’ve found that as long as I have good bones, the broth will have enough flavor to not need the extra beef meat.

THE BROTH 2 onions, halved 4″ nub of ginger, halved lengthwise 5-6 lbs of good beef bones, preferably leg and knuckle 1 lb of beef meat - chuck, brisket, rump, cut into large slices [optional] 6 quarts of water 1 package of Pho Spices [1 cinnamon stick, 1 tbl coriander seeds, 1 tbl fennel seeds, 5 star anise, 1 cardamom pod, 6 whole cloves - in mesh bag] 1 1/2 tbl salt 1/4 cup fish sauce 1 inch chunk of yellow rock sugar (about 1 oz) - or 1oz of regular sugar

THE BOWLS 2 lbs rice noodles (dried or fresh) cooked beef from the broth 1/2 lb flank, london broil, sirloin or eye of round, sliced as thin as possible. big handful of each: mint, cilantro, basil 2 limes, cut into wedges 2-3 chili peppers, sliced 2 big handfuls of bean sprouts Hoisin sauce Cock sauce (Sriracha)

Char: Turn your broiler on high and move rack to the highest spot. Place ginger and onions on baking sheet. Brush just a bit of cooking oil on the cut side of each. Broil on high until ginger and onions begin to char. Turn over and continue to char. This should take a total of 10-15 minutes.

Parboil the bones: Fill large pot (12-qt capacity) with cool water. Boil water, and then add the bones, keeping the heat on high. Boil vigorously for 10 minutes. Drain, rinse the bones and rinse out the pot. Refill pot with bones and 6 qts of cool water. Bring to boil over high heat and lower to simmer. Using a ladle or a fine mesh strainer, remove any scum that rises to the top.

Boil broth: Add ginger, onion, spice packet, beef, sugar, fish sauce, salt and simmer uncovered for 1 1/2 hours. Remove the beef meat and set aside (you’ll be eating this meat later in the bowls) Continue simmering for another 1 1/2 hours. Strain broth and return the broth to the pot. Taste broth and adjust seasoning - if you want a little more flavor, add a few dashes more of fish sauce, large pinch of salt and a small nugget of rock sugar (or large pinch of regular sugar).

Prepare noodles & meat: Slice your flank/london broil/sirloin as thin as possible - try freezing for 15 minutes prior to slicing to make it easier. Remember the cooked beef meat that was part of your broth? Cut or shred the meat and set aside. Arrange all other ingredients on a platter for the table. Your guests will “assemble” their own bowls. Follow the directions on your package of noodles - there are many different sizes and widths of rice noodles, so make sure you read the directions. For some fresh rice noodles, just a quick 5 second blanch in hot water is all that’s needed. The package that I purchased (above) - needed about 45 seconds in boiling water.

Ladling: Bring your broth back to a boil. Line up your soup bowls next to the stove. Fill each bowl with rice noodles, shredded cooked beef and raw meat slices. As soon as the broth comes back to a boil, ladle into each bowl. the hot broth will cook your raw beef slices. Serve immediately. Guests can garnish their own bowls as they wish.

These sauces are great for dipping your meat into and even putting alittle of each into the soup and mixing it all up. The garnish also goes into the bowl! This is some GOOD stuff!!!

Dear Preston,

My sweet little boy, you are 9 months today!  I say this every month but I just can’t believe how time has flown by. Sometimes, it’s hard to believe that you are actually even mine! Whenever I see your sweet face, I can’t help but smile and become overwhelmed with such love for you!  And just when it seems my heart has reached capacity, I love you even more!!!

img780

You amaze me everyday with the little things that you do. You are sooo strong-willed, feisty, determined, funny, smart, happy, curious and loving! You were crawling at 7 months and now at 9 months you took your 1st step (which made me so happy b/c you did it while I was home!) While you may not be walking officially, I give you about 2-3 weeks and you’ll be good to go!  You can stand without holding onto anything and you get that look in your eye that shows you want to take that leap but you’re just not sure yet!  But b/c I know how determined you are, it’s only a matter of time! You have 4 teeth and 2 more that just cut so you’ve been alittle fussy but we’re taking good care of you! And have I mentioned that you hate being confined.  You want to be able to roam free and explore which sometimes gets you into trouble but always makes a good picture! You love anything that isn’t a toy and remote controls are your favorite!

img758 Right now stair climbing is your favorite so we have to watch you extra careful!

You love your big sister and brother!  Especially your big brother! I can picture you being Nicholas’ shadow in just a few more months. The way he loves you and plays with you is so sweet (makes me nervous sometimes) but the love he has for you just radiates all over. Your big sister Ariel takes such good care of you. When Mommy and Daddy are busy, she plays with you and watches you and makes sure you don’t get into trouble (which is a must!) You sometimes even cry when she leaves the room.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much you love daddy!  He loves to tickle you and get you to laugh! The best part is that while I have to work, Daddy stays home and takes good care of you. He loves to take the BEST pictures of you and email them to me all day long! Those pictures of you, mean the world to me! I couldn’t ask for you to have a better daddy!

Picture 157 Here you are, watching Daddy work outside!  You were banging on the window for him to come back in!

And last but not least, you love ME!  Mommy…that is…we’re still working on you saying “Mama!”  and of course you always reply to me by saying… “Dada!!!”  but it still warms my heart! Just the other day I came home to daddy giving you a bath, and you heard my voice and started shouting and stood up looking for me!  It’s moments like those, that bring a tear to my eye. To know that even though I may not be here for you all the time, you still know how much I love you! My biggest fear when I went back to work, was that you wouldn’t want to have anything to do with me, and that I would miss everything you do, but you always seem to wait until I come home to show me something new!  Thank you for that!

Well my sweet Preston, Happy 9 months today!!! I can’t wait to see what you will learn this month!

Love, Mommy!!!

Blog Hop-3 things you did not know about me!

I’ve decided to join in on McKlinky’s blog hop every tuesday. This weeks topic is 3 things you did not know about me. I immediately started thinking about things some of you might not know b/c almost all of you know me pretty well with the exception of a few.

One

james-dean

I have been obsessed with James Dean since I was 16 and I know some of you know this already but I took it to the extreme of getting him a birthday cake every year on his birthday and I even had myself photoshopped into a photo with him just for kicks and giggles!

ME AND JAMES

Two

I am literally obsessed with eye brows! Not just mine but ALL eye brows! You all probably gathered that though considering the URL of my makeup blog. It all started in 10th grade when I had the biggest most unruly brows around. My sister Sallie used to make fun of me and so one day, I went home and plucked them all! Now, I fill them in to my liking. I NEVER leave a brow unattended when doing someone else’s makeup! Brow’s frame your face and really open it up and they should never be neglected!!!

shapyah1 shapyah2

The 1st pic is a BEFORE and the 2nd is the AFTER! See how much better they look!

Three

I am OCD about Microwaves. Not so much the microwave itself but the fact that if someone gets something out of it early and doesn’t reset it, I get all shaky! Every morning when I come into work, I see the time scrolling across the screen. It doesn’t matter what I am doing, I have to drop whatever is in my hands and press the reset button! Weird I know! Anyone know a good shrink? :)

Sutton’s visit

One of my best friend’s, Sutton is in medical school down at MUSC in Charleston and so she is one busy girl!  She hasn’t even been able to see Preston until father’s day weekend. Since school is out, she was able to make a trip up for the day. I couldn’t have been happier to see her!!! She came with us to my mom’s house to eat that day. My mom always loved her so she was happy to have her as part of the family that day!  She used to work with me at MAC. Infact, the 1st time she moved here to work, we weren’t that close and then she left for 6 months to go on a medical internship in Africa. When she came back, she started working at MAC again and we were pretty much inseperable after that. It’s funny how in life, you meet people that will be your friends for only a period of your life and then others that you know will be a part of your life forever!  Sutton is one of those friends and I love her dearly! Here is Sutton with Preston for the 1st time!

Speaking of Monkey Joe’s

As I mentioned in my previous post, we (as in Timmy and me) hated Monkey Joes. Nicholas had a pretty ok time and Ariel had fun at 1st but after about an hour, started hanging out with us b/c she was bored and ready to go. $18 and 2 hours later, we all decided that this was the 1st and last time we would go unless it was for a birthday party that we were invited to. There just wasn’t enough to keep the kid’s interest for long. Here are just a few of the pictures.

Picture 152

Ariel with “Monkey Joe!”

Picture 153

Preston wondering what the heck is that???!!!

Picture 147

The only picture we could even get of Nicholas. The only reason why he had fun was because he met another little boy and they chased girls the whole time or shall I say the girls chased them!!!

Picture 151

Ariel smiling before she realized that was all there was to it!!!

Picture 146 Picture 149 Picture 150

Poor Preston wanted to play so bad!  He just kept shouting at all the kids running by him!  I can’t wait until he can play with the rest of them!!!!

Things I find “Lame”

I was reading Busy Bee Lauren’s blog the other day and she posted a tag of things she finds lame. I have really been wanting to make my blog more fun…Not that I don’t love Preston and the kids but I want to blog about more than just them. Spice it up a bit ya know! Anywho..I thought this was a really cute tag…Also please no one take offense to what I consider lame b/c it’s just my opinion.

1. Dooney & Bourke handbags

dooney

I think they are the ugliest bags for the price. Seriously I would rather spend my money on a thrift store bag (i’m sure I would find something cuter!) A lady even tried to sell me one the other day when I was working at Belk b/c it was 70% off. I seriously threw up in my mouth! I am more a fan of Botkier! Go check those out!

2. Clinique

CQ0060

It’s no secret that i’m a makeup artist and that M.A.C. Cosmetics is my favorite!  But little does anyone know that I worked for Clinique for a LONG month!  It was the worst month of my life!  Seriously, I can honestly say from experience that the product sucks!  Sorry for all you Clinique wearers but maybe you all should take a step on the “wild-side” and try some REAL makeup!  And I don’t just mean M.A.C.!  There are lots of other brands out there!  For example, I LOVE Urban Decay’s primer potion for the eyes!  That stuff will keep your makeup on ALL day!!!

3. Kanye West

Kanye-West

This guy must seriously have the BIGGEST ego ever!!!  Not to mention that I hate his music…Yeah I know some people love him but when a person has that big of an ego, I just can support him at all!!!  And he’s a sore LOSER! Enough talk about him!!!!

4. Tanning Beds

standard1

I have never been in a tanning bed and never plan to. I think it’s harmful to your skin and ages you beyond repair!  I choose to stay white and youthful looking for as long as possible!  Just my opinion!

5. Adam Lambert’s Sexuality

15920947

His sexuality isn’t what’s lame to me but the fact that it was even up for discussion!  I could careless if Adam Lambert is gay! I have gay friends…big whoop!  The thing that get’s me is that people were actually SURPRISED!!!  Seriously…if you didn’t know that Adam Lambert was gay, then I bet you didn’t know Freddie Mercury from Queen, Elton John and George Michael were all gay too!

6. Monkey Joe’s

img_logoMain

BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY!!!!  We took the kids this saturday and it was the longest and most boring 2 hours of my life!  Maybe for toddlers, it will be fun but for big kids, they get bored easily!  Next time, we will just take them to Edventure’s!

7. White Chocolate

whitechoc

Ever since 1998 on the plane ride home from France where we hit rough turbulence and I puked up all the white german chocolate that I had JUST ate, I can’t stomach it!  Not at all!

Well folks, I think that’s all for now!  I’m sure I can think of more things but i’ll stop for now!  I’m tagging all of my followers to get to posting on what they find lame!  :)
